Moon Pirates is in Ffresh!
Oh yes,

Moon Pirates is in Ffresh!
"The festival programme consists of student work from Wales, the UK and abroad, the Ffresh Awards Show, previews of some of the year’s most anticipated films, an exclusive multimedia exhibition, the return of Pitch to Win, and masterclasses, panel sessions and workshops with some of the industry’s most renowned and respected figures. "
...Sweet. Its going to be a good weekend, and 'Moon Pirates' is nominated in the 'Out of Sight' category, along with the film 'Trolley Dollies' made by our good friends.
Saying that, they had better not beat us.Both films were made and produced at Cyfle, and IMO, both rock.

January
Hello and Happy new Year!
...everyone always says that, it gets quite annoying actually.
2009 has started as usual, Christmas has been and gone, and left the bill, Britain is freezing cold and everyone is slipping around on the ice, and I have a borderline flu cold that is making me grumpy.

A quick re-post of my Indian Mythology trio since I've tweaket the heck out of all 3 pictures for print. Hopefully a few of these and one or two other of my pictures will sell a few prints in a local art enterprise shop in Merthyr.

(above) A gift for a good friend of 2 of her characters.

Rayman fanart? Well, sort of, another gift for another friend!
ANOTHER Christmas gift, a portrait remake of my brother and his lovely girlfriend (both of whom are artists, so it was a bit nerve wracking to give a picture as a present!)
And LOOK!! WATERCOLOURS! I had almost forgotten that they existed.

Alive and Drawing
I am still alive!!
I haven't updated in a while, I haven't been spending that much time doing any sort of art work lately, not since leaving Cyfle and facing the ultimate pain in the neck - having to find a job.
At the minute I have just finished my usual summer job with Summer Playschemes (where the nearest I get to any sort of art project is being squirted at with poster paint by kids who think it's hysterical.)
Now I am in that well rehearsed hole NEEDING an art related job, whilst HAVING to look for work at the job center to keep both the family and the government off your back about being unemployed.
Ouch.

Cyfle gone, unemployed, sad and missing moon pirates.

The 2D Moon Pirates (and Roz!) and other great friends, artists (and now former Cyfle trainees) at the KANGAZANG Book Launch. Kangazang is the first book by author and artist Terry cooper (the beer rest at the front). Terry was also the voice artist for Moon Pirates, and an amazing one, taking on all the characters for the English language version of MOON PIRATES!
Well Cyfle kicked us out a week and a half ago now (though we've still been going in to finish the Welsh dub of Moon Pirates, and to generally use Cyfle's offices as a base for scouting around Cardiff for work.)
It's a real pain that we cant have the film on the net at the moment because of the requirements of most of the festivals that we are planning on entering it too, so trying to use it to get work when it isn't on the net is... difficult, looks like anyone who MIGHT have animation/art work going is going to get bombarded with Moon Pirate dvd's because I don't know if I have the stamina any more to work a full summer holiday looking after children! I am missing Cyfle, both the work and the company that came with it.
In the meanwhile, here is something to keep me ticking over, the awesome Balrog from LOTR in London.

Compin' for Cyfle

I loved an animating this scene, it was the first bit of lip sync I had done in a long time and I forgot how much I enjoyed it... its a really smug feeling outwitting that sound track and getting the lip shapes and expressions to fit *smug.*
It doesn't last long though, when you put the scene into After Effects and realize that now.... you have to learn after effects.
Bugger.
3 scenes down.... lots more to go!

Oh, remember that background test a few posts down? Here is a (...too low quality res) pic of the final scene.
Watch the Moon Pirates trailer here!
A better look at the panning background for the cheesy moon.

We only have another 2 weeks at Cyfle, and its been so much fun that I don't want to leave!!
I'm wondering if anyone will notice if I set up home under the desk and live here for a while, but the film is coming along, I'm compositing some of the scenes that I animated and there's always a buzz to see a scene finished.... and so much of the film is finished that people are buzzing all over the place.
Animation love.

Moon Pirates Update

Hello, been busy at Cyfle with the guys, we're in the last 2 weeks of our time on the course and our film Moon Pirates.
I've been working on some backgrounds, which are always fun, and bashing up that ship (designed by me and modeled in maya by the marvelous CG Ben and Matt) was very therapeutic.
xx
Here is the final promo-poster for MOON PIRATES!! Designed by James White, who also illustrated the characters, and Allyn Thomas our director, who did the background (notice how much my ship got shrunken down up in the corner, lol!)
Below are some pictures of all our wonderful selves working away at Cyfle, posing with our characters (because sometimes you just have to,) discussing our work in progress animation with talented stop motion animator Tim Allen, and finally at the very bottom, at a production meeting with Rick villeneuve.

Moon Pirates space concept

Some of the colour keys and concept designs I have been working on for our Cyfle film 'Moon Pirates.' I've gotten through lots of different variations and versions of what space might look like, without looking like every other cartoon space there is, but these seem to be the ones most liked by the rest of the team and I like them too, they are a good basis, I think, the different colours represent different times throughout the film, white when the characters are eager and excited, red for when they are in danger...naturally.
